Things to do

BLACK CANYON – GUNNISON NATIONAL PARK
A deep, steep-walled gorge carved by the Gunnison River. Roads and trails have spectacular views of geologic features and some of the steepest cliffs in North America.
CURECANTI NATIONAL RECREATION AREA
Located on the Gunnison River east of Montrose, Curecanti is a popular destination for boating and fishing (lake trout and Kokanee salmon). Curecanti offers visitors two marinas, hiking trails, boat launches and camping.
RIDGWAY STATE PARK & RESERVOIR
South of Montrose at the base of the San Juan Mountains, the Dam and Reservoir is a year-round outdoor recreation paradise of picnicking, boating, swimming, fishing, biking, hiking, winter sports and wildlife watching.
MUSEUM OF THE MOUNTAIN WEST
Located just outside of town on US-50 featuring a collection of historic log cabins, Western town stores, and other historic buildings which have been moved to the site and is listed on the state register of historic properties.
UTE INDIAN MUSEUM
A local museum presenting the history of the Ute tribe of Native Americans, located on the homestead of Chief Ouray and his wife, Chipeta. The grounds include a Memorial Park, Chipeta’s Crypt, and a native plants garden.
MONTROSE WATER SPORTS PARK
1,000 feet of river with a gradient of 11 feet with natural obstacles. The park was designed with all citizens in mind (accessible by ADA standards) from ankle waders, to expert kayakers, to spectators.
COVERED BRIDGE RANCH
A family owned and operated farm and wildlife refuge, wholesale tree nursery, Christmas tree farm, and the site of festive annual events open to the community.
STORM KING DISTILLING CO.
A family’s passion for finely crafted spirits presents Montrose’s first craft distillery that creates a selection of whiskies, gin, rum and agave spirits. Featuring a tasting room and food truck. All ages are welcome.
HORSEFLY BREWING COMPANY
Located on historic Main Street is Montrose’s oldest brewery & brewpub with a full restaurant. Featuring an outside patio & live music, their motto is “that there should be No Crap on Tap”.
